The Project

The homeowner wanted to transform her bungalow into a comfortable, sustainable retirement home, free from rising bills. Prioritizing energy efficiency, we worked closely with her to create a cosy, future-ready space with modern, eco-friendly solutions.

We managed the retrofit, adding insulation, air tightness improvements, upgraded windows, and efficient heating, ventilation, and hot water systems. Electrical upgrades included rewiring, solar PV, and new lighting. External wall and loft insulation ensured year-round comfort, while modern finishes completed the energy-efficient, sustainable transformation

Air Source Heat Pump

The client chose an air source heat pump to improve her home’s comfort and efficiency as part of this deep retrofit. The heat pump works by extracting warmth from the outside air—even in colder weather—to heat her home and provide hot water, reducing reliance on traditional heating systems. For someone living alone on the Wirral, this high-efficiency system helps lower heating costs and offers peace of mind when managing energy bills. The air source heat pump keeps her home consistently warm and is also low-maintenance and eco-friendly, perfectly aligning with her commitment to sustainability.

Full Re-Insulation

This homeowner added cavity wall and loft insulation to enhance her bungalow’s energy efficiency. The insulation helps to trap heat inside, preventing warmth from escaping through the walls and roof, even during colder months. This upgrade has significantly reduced her heating bills while maintaining a comfortable indoor temperature. Cavity wall and loft insulation are both low-maintenance and eco-friendly, reducing her carbon footprint and improving her home’s overall energy performance

Windows

This homeowner also chose to install new triple-glazed windows to improve her home’s energy efficiency and comfort. The advanced glazing technology helps to better insulate her home, keeping heat in during the winter and blocking unwanted heat in the summer. These windows reduce drafts, improve sound insulation, and significantly lower heating costs. The triple glazing also enhances the overall value of her property

Battery Storage

As part of a deep retrofit, the homeowner installed a battery storage system to optimise the benefits of their solar PV setup. The system stores excess energy generated during the day, allowing it to be used later when the sun isn’t shining, reducing reliance on the grid. This setup lowers energy bills and offers greater control over electricity usage. The battery storage is eco-friendly, maximising the use of renewable energy and reducing the carbon footprint. With minimal maintenance required, it ensures long-term energy savings and supports a more sustainable, self-sufficient home
